Default Write Off?

Hey I got hit by a car the other day did a fair amount of damage to the bike (01 F4i) went to insurance company and took a close look at it and are still unsure if they are going to write it off.

Just wondering what kinds of things need to be broken before they will write it off. Need new front and side ferrings, brake rotor is bent, fork has a nice dent, headlight is smashed, exhaust is scraped up, mirror is busted, both frt signals are busted, rad is impaled with plastic pieces, brake lever is bent, gas tank has a chunk taken out from my belt, both right pegs are scraped up,frt tire has metal jammed between the rim and the tire.
I don't want the bike back its too smashed up just want a new one, so wondering what needed to be broken before it is written off?

The standard practice is for the insurance company to compare the cost to fix the vehicle with the cost to replace the vehicle (based on current value in your area). If it's cheaper to fix it, they'll fix it. If it's cheaper to replace it, they'll cut you a check for whatever they value your bike to be worth.

Just glancing at the damage done i'd say there's probably at least $4k worth of damage (according to OEM $$ amounts adjusters will use). I'd bet money that the insurance company will call the bike totalled and cut you a check for whatever your bike is worth in your area.

yeah I figured the parts would be a fair amount to replace, but the labour to put it all back together would be the killer. Go in tomorwo to the local honda bike shop to have them decide whether to fix it or not, hoping they just get rid of it but could be getting it fixed I just want a new one haha wanted to make sure they wrote it off if possible

I'm in the same boat with you. I m waiting for the adjsuter to go ahead and tell me its totalled. When he first saw the bike, he figured it was fixable, and wanted me to take it down to the local dealer for an estimate. I talked to him for a few more minutes and asked what it would take to be written off. He said the repairs have to be75% of the value of the bike.

So, I gave him the list of parts and internet prices that I knew had to be replaced. He looked at it for a minute, said, dont bother taking it down for an estimate. Said he would go home and run the numbers to make it official and call me back on Monday. well today's monday, and I havent heard, but Im positive its been written off.

I would bet yours will be scrapped with that amount of damage. I have seen bikes totalled from being pushed over my a car.

I had $4,200 in damage on my 2000 cbr F4 and they fixed it. It was all cosmetic damage and the bike was only worth $4,600, I was surprised they fixed but they did. That was last year.

who's your insurance? that is just insane. I dont know if you could have done anything about it, but I wouldnt have accepted that. Is there more to the story that caused them to not scrap it?
