You've never taken an abused motor apart or had one with over 30,000 miles have you?

55k miles on a 10+ year old bike is barely 5,000 a year. That's hardly high mileage.

Take it for a test ride and have a mechanic you trust look it over - if there are problems that have caused damage you should be able to find them pretty easily. Otherwise you should be good to go, but immediately do all the 60,000-mile maintenance, which includes repeats of anything he might have missed at 15k, 30k, etc.

I bought an 01 with 33k on it in January for a little over 2k, and the thing runs amazing. After an oil change and some TLC it's an incredible bike. If you're comfortable with working on your own bike (including an engine swap), then I say go for it, but if you'll constantly be wanting to take it to a mechanic, just wait for the next thing to come around. The only thing that'll justify me wanting this would be it looking spotless, and clean. Good luck!

I stunt ride, between my bikes and my friends bikes, obe seen some best up throttled engines. If this bike runs good I would do exactly what munson said.

it as simple as this, if the bike runs good @ 55k! and hasnt even had a valve cleareance adjusted, that bike wasnt ridden hard. For 2k IF when u personally look the bike over and everything checks out good, 2k is a deal!

Bottom line if the bike still runs good its been maintained, people who put those kind of miles on dont skimp on maintenance.

Pretty much what I was thinking.

If someone has had it run for that long... chances are they have been doing the right stuff for it to make it that far.

Counter offer around 14-15

My 2003 has 45k on it now and I'm pretty sure it's never had a valve adjustment. PO picked it up at 17kish from a dealer so it MIGHT have had an adjustment before he bought it, but he never had one done for sure. Runs fine and I don't hear anything out of the ordinary besides the cctl going on.

Good feedback everyone, and good thread in general. I picked up my bike in Santa Barbara, CA. I got it for $2600 with 28K. I was a little sketchy thinking it's a lot of miles, but the bike runs amazing, and it came with all the basic goodies. Test ride it, and go from there.
