Would you buy an 01 w/55k miles?

Looking at an 01 tomorrow with 55k and clean title. Regular oil change but never had the valves readjusted, just did basic maintenance at home. I know these bikes are tanks, but that is with proper care and maintenance. Has pc3, k&n and ART exhaust. I will ride it tomorrow but I'd like some feedback from this forum. Thanks

What price?????
If you do I would definitely get the valves checked and see.
It is alot of mileage so be sure your getting a good price so if it does die on you your not out a bunch.

I'd image with 55k and never having done a valve adjustment that the valvetrain/head is beyond help but you never know. And to answer the question, NO I would never buy a motorcycle with that many miles.

2000 is what he is asking for

Assuming everything else is in good shape, that is a pretty reasonable price. Engines for the F4i run $400-600 with low miles out of wrecked bikes. They might need a cover or something simple to be mint.

LOT of miles. i'd probably offer him 1500. get the valves adjusted change the brakes and turn it into a track bike.

If its mint $2000 is reasonable, I've seen bikes with 70,000 miles and still run strong as hell, and like stated before engines are cheap I have found a few for under $400.

Hey man. By any chance you saw this bike in Santa Barbara? There was an 01 for sale with 50k miles and exactly just like your description. IDK but I bought my bike at 29k and now has 31300 and runs strong. I know some guy Thirdgen has like 200k plus on his!

yeah well thirdgenlxi is an exception to the previous owner maintenance rule (not that I expect him to ever sell it). From what I can tell, he does the maint so regularly the National Institute of Standards and Technology prolly call him to check the time before setting the atomic clock :p

There are few owners like him, even on here (IDoDirt is another). Most owners selling their bike will not be like them. And chances are high the bike has missed 3 valve clearance checks

rjgraves84 07-02-2011 10:23 PM

Chances are if the bike has 55k on it, it has been maintained just fine. Check It out, listen to it and if he let's you, ride It. Screw the valve clearance ****, if it concerns you that much have it done as soon as you get it. Bottom line if the bike still runs good its been maintained, people who put those kind of miles on dont skimp on maintenance.
