Default Would installing a 190/55/17 rear tire be a bad idea?

Will installing 180/55/17 to a 190/55/17 rear tire effect my performance and handling? It's not a race bike, it's an F4i. I am a bit aggressive, but no knee dragger. Mountain roads all the time. I hear it helps stability, but can take away from cornering performance. Will it effect my type of riding? Is it dangerous at all? Just put my bike down 3 weeks ago and busted up my hand and teeth. Not in a rush to do it again with a stupid mistake!

The 180/55 is optimal for F4i handling. Especially if you're going to Palomar Mtn. ;-)

Good. Ordered fairings and a slip on this week. Hard cast comes off my hand Friday, then a velcro cast. I figure 2 weeks when my bike is repaired, I will be back on the horse. (It happened on Sunrise hwy. at 8:30pm by myself, picked up bike and rode 30 min home with broken right hand.) Should have seen the look on my wife's face when I took off my helmet. PRICELESS! LOL

Awesome article. I will definitely keep my stock size tire!

I have Conti-Motion on my bike now. Ok, but the rear slid out when I was downshifting before a curve and it went down at 50+. Probably hit something slick in the road? It was pitch black on a mountain road when I went down. I think I will be changing to the Michelin Pilot Road 3. Hear awesome things about this tire. Sticky and a high mileage tire.

You might've downshifted too abruptly which can cause issues with the rear tire locking up, also (perhaps in conjunction with a slippery part of the road). That's what rev-matching is for. If you aren't familiar with that, look it up

Stay with your standard size - up 10mm in the width will cause the bike to steer slower and be different in the corners. The factory fits that size for good reason...............
