Hi whats the diff between the F4 and the F4I? Back in the UK we have slightly diff names for the bikes so im not sure if i have an F4 or an F4I. I have a 2001 Fuel Injected CBR F1, its a 4th gen CBR so its also classed as an F4. I am right in assuming fuel injected would indicate F4I? Also why do some of the F4I's have the banana seat and some dont?

you are correct....the 'i' in the F4 stands for fuel injection...so i believe it was 2001 and on...(maybe 2000, not sure) that they started doing fuel injection and thus every f4 thereafter is called an F4i...if you have fuel injection you therefore have an f4i....

as for the banana seat, that happened i believe started in 2004 (once again my memory is failing me right now)....it was just an aesthetic change to make it not as 'aggressive' as say an RR.....many people do the conversion because they look SOOOOO much better with the split seat IMO...

Ill be honest the main reason i wanted to know is beacuse im one of those who wanna change the rear end of the bike to a split seat. i was wondering wether because it technicaly is an F4i whether i could buy a double seat of an f4i and fit it onto my bike without having to alter the sub frame.

 

well you'll have to get a new subframe to do it..do a search on the board for split seat conversion and you'll find all the info you need....

 

since the F4i was fuel injected Honda changed the way the gas tanks were. Instead of having the fuel pump outside the gas tank pre 2000, after 2000 they put the fuel pump in the gas tank. This makes replacing the gas tank and fuel pump a lot more expensive

 

F4i's started in 2001.
