what are these noises?(cct?) VIDEO INSIDE
Heys guys, since Ive gotten the bike I have heard the weirdest sounds ever. Mechanically it operates perfectly. story of the bike:
2001 f4i, lady got it in 2001, rode it around every now and then mostly stored in her garage, some periods of over a year. I bought it a few months ago it only had 4000 miles. since then it now has 5700. Ever since I got the bike Ive been hearing these 2 distinct noises:
1. from 2-4k, its a slow rattle, its there every now and then, it doesnt matter whether im accelerating, decelerating, or no throttle, while in that rev range it rattles.
2. This one is kind of funny to me, from 2k and up whenever I accelerate or just give some throttle as soon as I let off this faster than above^ rattle comes on, right as I let go of the throttle its comes on for about 1-3 seconds, imagine a blow off valve on a bike, except the sound made is a rattle
I think these two sounds combined are just the cct (cam chain tensioner), but then again the bike has such low mileage, I was thinking that just time itself probably wore down the cct somehow, idk ???
here is the video:
At 0:22 to the end of the video you can clearly hear the ticking/rattling sound from sound #2. also damn this video for showing the worst aesthetic problem on the bike, the dent on the gas tank
But yeah what do you guys think? I will also be uploading some more videos soon, thanks!

Couldn't hear anything, but my guess is you're hearing one of two things:
1) Spark plugs firing, which is normal
2) Valves tapping. There's a saying "Tappy valves are happy valves." That means they have some free play. If you don't hear them they might be too tight, which is bad news for your engine.
Overall, sounds good.
FWIW, my bike has the CCT problem at 6300 miles. You can hear it distinctly, and I heard nothing similar from your bike.

hey guys thanks a lot! Thing is the video is probably bad, in real life, everyone I ride with hears it and it is a pretty loud rattling noise, I had it checked out by a mechanic and he said everything was fine. I guess Ill just try to get a better video for you guys with different distances, idk we'll see

If it was me, I would simply put in a new OEM cct and or the APE one and see if it still makes the same sound/sounds. Seems to me that might be the cheapest way of trouble shooting it anyways besides getting a mechanic involved pay wise. If it still makes noise, then you have just eliminated one possibility. Also you can check the valve gaps yourself actually just to see what everything is at. That is fairly easy actually. If it was also me, I sure would think about raising the bike back up to it's original height. (front fork tubes/rear linkage) I would think that this could possibly really affect handling. Unless you like it/need it lowered.

hotwheels thats what Im gonna have to do I guess, that or post a better video showing the problem better. And yeah I definetly plan on raising everything back to oem, p.o. was short thus why its lowered, and yeah it handles a lot different than what the stock setup is, going around corners sucks!!!
