RE: what am i looking to spend on a 2001-2002
I looked at a lot of them before buying mine. The cheapest was 4000 with 19000miles. It was in great shape, ran nice-erion pipe. But it was the first that I looked at, and was weary of the mileage- big mistake. I ended up with an 04 with 3900 miles that needs a lot of work. After riding a lot of bikes, I think that mileage isn't that important on these bikes, maintenance records are.!
I don't like it when the previous owner puts a lot of money into doo-dads and thinks that he can get some extra money for it. If it has a full titanium exhaust system, carbon fiber panels, power commander with custom map-yes, but not very much. But an undertail kit? Not a cent,, most of them are junk. I think around 4500 is a good price for one in great shape and reasonable mileage. Take money off for cosmetic damage, that stuff costs a lot to fix!

Really depends where you get the bike, dealer or private. The condition of the bike, service records, etc. You could spend anywhere from 3500-5500 depending on these factors. I have a 2001 f4i but its completely custom and i know what kind of service my bike has had there is no way id let it go cheap. If you find one really cheap there is probably a reason. I would say go look at make sure it looks good and is what you want check the oil window and make sure its clean also take a peek for leaks, look at the rotors make sure there is no warping or grooves. Then start her up and let her idle and listen for about 120 seconds. Then slowely give it gas and listen to the motor make sure she sounds good no odd noises. If you hear a tapping sound between 3500-6000 RPS then it probably only needs a CCT. If your handy and mechanical this should cost 60-80 bucks if not around 200 to have done. Also take a look at the tires and wheels, and make sure the chain is ok nice and tight and the indicator is not in the red. Then take it for a ride if it all seems good and make sure its shifts nice and theres no stray noises and rides straight. Then if your happy with it make your offer. Deduct for problems you may see such as CCT noise, brake and tires.
Make sure you check NADA Guides http://WWW.NADAGUIDES.com its simialr to kelly blue book but this is what dealers actually use. It will give you trade in and retail based on condition. Now dont pay too much because the person put a bunch of aftermarket parts on it. Thats his problem.
2001 f4i approx 10,000 $3620 for something ****ty $5200 for something nice and well kept (with performance exhaust only)
2002 f4i approx 10,000 $3980 for something ****ty $5600 for something nice and well kept (with performance exhaust only)
Hope this helps You should be aboe to get a really nice f4i for about 4200-4500 from a private party

Three months ago I bought mine for $4500 with 13K on the clock, TBR slip-on, under-tail and integrated turn signals, and heated grips. Also, I got gloves, a leather jacket and helmet with it. The bike is in mint shape, just a few scratches here and there. Good luck with finding one.
