also, i've got the same bike and just powdercoated the stator and clutch covers
you should look into it. it really cleans it up to get rid of that odd color they come stock with

sounds like a good idea. I saw a post a while back where someone painted all the fairing bolts black and it was a nice little touch. I think that will be my project.
