Default Undertail without a hugger?

How do the undertails hold up if a hugger is not used? Do they get chipped up or is it OK?

I don't think a hugger will help your undertail a WHOLE lot anyway. I think it mostly helps from rocks getting back by the shock/motor. I'm sure it will help some, but...there are a lot of ppl with only undertails, including myself.

+1 on that. It's more for the rear shock than anything... well and the look of it too I guess.

I've put a few hundred miles on my undertail, and so far, it has held up great. It does get dirty fairly quick, but I haven't had any paint chips yet.

My undertail is starting to chip and Ive had the rear hugger longer then Ive had the undertail on. It would all depend on the quality of tire you have. Ive been riding some scrubs for a while, I think every rock has left its mark.
