Default Trick to unlock Passenger seat cowl

Gents, my son found a way to break my passenger seat lock, now I can't get to the storage area for my tools, etc - is there a trick to open the rear seat compartment? Kids, the horror!

Long screwdriver, and lots of luck. You're going to need to try to pop the seat out of the clasp. I got to it from the left side of the bike. Took me about two weeks of trying on and off though, it's a real pain in the ***. I still need to fix my lock.

After you do get it open, Just do what I did....use Velco to keep the seat down so there is no need for that lock.....This is temporary for me until I can get the replacement lock and wire it back in. So far the Velcro trick works great. Seat has not popped off in the 2 weeks of riding I have done ( 2 week newbie at riding ).

a lock is something used to well...lock something. so yes we do need that lock, otherwise anyone can just take off my seat and run off with whatever i got in there. and i like to lock my helmet sometimes.

It is actually very easy to open. I went and tried it myself just out of curiosity and took me less than 2 mins. with a long flat screw driver. Take the front seat off and try to look back into your compartment to see if you can get your tools or what you need out of there. Take a peek and if you can spot the latch piece that has the lock's cable, as you can see the cable pulls that piece back and allows you to lift the seat. Now all you have to do is wedge the screw driver between the round metal piece and the cable hook piece and pull back like the cable would and lift the seat. It may take you a few tries, but you can do it fairly easily. Hope that helps!
