my bike fell over on grass recently and i found brightish red fluid around the kickstand during inspection after picking it up. i read it might be torque converter fluid. could this be the fluid i saw and what it might mean?

well its def. not torque converter fluid also dont think its coolant, the only thing i could think of is brake fluid also but i dont know why that would leak there, but who knows maybe spilt out somehow then when the bike was upright ran down some stuff and came out there, look for a trail man.

 

You asked if it could be torque converter fluid you're seeing. Vehicles with automatic transmission use torque converters to manage the raw power/torque from the engine so you don’t have too much stress on the drive shaft or other gearing. And they use/are part of the same system as your transmission so they use transmission fluid.

Your bike obviously doesn’t have an automatic transmission, so you can rule that out. You have a suggestion about brake fluid, you would be able to see the brake fluid running down something, like the frame, and crossing over the engine because you're rear brake master cylinder is usually mounted on the right (throttle) side. Look for that.

Coolant is my best guess because you usually have fuel and coolant overflow lines leading to the area you're talking about. If your coolant level is where it's suppose to be, then you're fine. It's ok for some coolant to leak out from time to time when it heats up. That's why you check it often.

yeah my bike's on the rag, lol! seriously, thanks for clearing up my misinformation. this forum rocks. yep, i panicked when i read 'torque converter fluid'. whatever that was, it sounded serious. my coolant level is where its supposed to be. will switch to midgrade.
