Default Catalytic Converter

My new F4i 2006 is an european version but I do not know why it has a catalytic converter and the sonda lambda.
I remember guys saying that the converter is a 4 HP loss.
Is this really true ?
Can I take it off without problems with the factory air/fuel mixture program ?

Thanks in advance for your experience about this.

Cheers

Jorge

They put the catalytic converter and 02 (lambda) sensor on there for reduced emissions. I wasn't aware, until now, that Honda was doing that. I think the U.S. Beemers have the emissions crap but not sure if anyone else does.

Anyway, I'd say 4hp loss easily and possibly more depending on how restrictive the catalytic converter is. Can you remove it? Hmmmm, I can't say for sure. Taking all the crap off and installing a PCIII might be a workable option.

I have an '06 F4i and it also had the catalytic converter with an oxygen sensor. I installed a slip on but had to weld on an M12-1.25 nut onto the pipe for the oxygen sensor to thread into. I did not have to get it remapped or anything and it runs fine. As far as I've read, the oxygen sensor helps lean out the engine for better gas mileage while holding constant speeds such as a highway trip, but I wouldn't take it out all together. Not too sure how restrictive the catalytic converter is though because the diameter of the converter is slightly bigger than that of the rest of the pipe.

Chainstretcher:

The ctalytic converter is really very restrictive and is very difficult break it and toke it off.

Well, when I bought my bike, the dealer had included a Scorpion slip on with a mid pipe included. I'm not sure what model it is, but it's an oval shaped can made out of titanium and also has the heat-treated bluish color to it. I simple drilled a hole in the mid pipe at the location for the oxygen sensor that was the right size for the sensor to fit into, but not too big so that I couldn't weld a nut onto it. The thread size on the oxygen sensor is an M12 x 1.25 thread. It has worked well and no malfunction lights have come on.

Any time something new with a computer comes with a cat and o2 sensors, it is usually quite a task to remove them and trick the computer into still using the correct air/fuel ratio, unless you were to replace the entire computer and harness with another model that doesn't have the cat and sensors to begin with.... but damn! That SOUNDS like alot of work not to mention actually figuring out where to begin.

If you were to remove either parts you'd definitely want to consider a PCIII to reprogram the ignition. Dynojet has a few maps for European models with catalytic converters and aftermarket mufflers.
