I'm running race take-offs this time. 'cause I wanted to do track days with dot tires.
on the street you have to wait longer for them to warm up and get some grip. they will probably not last as long as street tires too and have limited heat/cool cycles (i.e. they might harden up even when they have tread left - i.e. be very careful in general). If you do get them, make sure the guy who's selling knows what he's doing and has reasonable concern for your safety. you need to get softer compounds which are decently sticky at street temperatures.
I've been to the track a few times but didn't really see anyone peddling take-offs. I know the guy I got it from personally. That's the only way I'd get a used tire... Be warned, many dealerships will refuse to put on used tires, for liability issues.
