Default Time for a new tail

Ok, so if this hurts your F4i loving feelings, then I am sorry, but I personally feel that the F4i tail is ugly and fat. I am gonna replace it. Mind you, this is for my track bike, so I will NEVER ride a passenger, so I am going to make the tail quite slim. I have an idea of what I am gonna do, but I am not totally sure, so I will get to that later. Anyway, seeing as my subframe is fine (and because I can only weld steel at home) I am just gonna totally remove it and build a subframe from scratch out of steel. Tonight, I took the bike apart.

First photo is the bike, second is the stock tail, third is no subframe w/ seat at stock height, forth is seat raised about 1.5 inches and fifth is the wiring that is left behind.

Question, what is the big heat-sink thing? And what are the 2 large resistors or fuses that are attached to the wires for the lights?

Thanks,

-Josh

i could use some new tail too. The "big heat-sink thing" would be your regulator/rectifier. Those two other things in the tail are the engine stop and fuel cutoff relays also. But yeah the f4i tail could be much sexier. I wouldnt mind swapping out mine for a 600rr tail and subframe.

Did some work tonight, I am going out, so I dont have time to show or tell about all of it, but here is what the subframe looks like. Seat is raised 1.25" in the front and 1.5 in the rear. Feels nice.

K, so I finally did some more work on this. Here are pics of the new bodywork mounted to the tail. I am also going to mod the bodywork, but this is just mounted, before I cut it up. This is a race tail from a 2007-08 R1. At first I made my subframe to work with the stock honda seat. My thought was that I would save a little cash and I could make them work together fine. Well, when I got the tail, I realized it would look kinda funny, so I bucked up the $50 and got a R1 seat. It def looks better than the honda seat and fits the tail better, but that doesnt even matter. That seat is night and day better than that CRAPY honda seat. After getting the R1 seat I realize just how bad the shape of the honda seat is. Its terrible, really really terrible. I wanted this mod to make the bike look cooler, turns out I am also gonna be making the bike more fuctional and comfortable. Who knew.

I will take a picture of the work I did to the subframe soon. I extended it to support the back of the tail and to hold the battery and stuff. I just forgot to shoot the pics.

Oh, and I sold the exhaust that is in the other pictures and I have not gotten my new exhaust yet. I am NOT running it open header, dont worry. Also, I will be fab-ing a nice LED tail light for the bike, along with a mount for a license plate that will be removable and leave no signs so it will be clean for the track.

Yea, thanks. I keep going back and forth between putting the light in the tail, or putting it on the license plate holder. One way the light would just come off with the license plate when I go to the track, the other way, it would be smoothed into the frame and just get turned off at the track. We will see.
