Question Thoughts- temporarily using lic plate lights as turn sigs.

Probly sounds dumb. but I just ordered lic plate lights after making an undertail and getting rid of the ugly light. the ones I got are two seperate bolt-lights to light up my plate. I also do not currently have turn sigs and I was wondering if I could wire my lic plate lights as turn sig lights until I get my integrated tailight. I know that they are white lights and not the yellow like turn sigs, is this a problem? I figure that atleast having a flashing light telling people behind me that Im turning would be better than nothing.
also.. would I be able to have them as running lights to light up my plate when Im not using the turn sigs? I would guess its like when I wired my front flush mounts and they are able to be running lights and turn sigs when you put on the blinker switch. sorry for rambling. just wanna check if this wouldnt work and I would be wasting my time.

Thanks all!

Use your plate light & its wiring just for that - lic plate illumination.

You can wire the OEM tail light to work as signal lights. There's also an OEM style tail light available by Clear Alternatives/etc, that is already wired this way & ready to install.

Otherwise, just buy new rear signals. They're inexpensive.

Your plates flashing? Would not be obvious enough for drivers to know....I tried that and don't like it. I do like the led plate lights though. Make the plates very easy to see....I got the ones that is direct bolt on.

Gotcbr- I plan on getting an integrated one like you suggested. but I might try wiring the stock tailight to flash until then. Im assuming just wire to the brake light? or the running light part? not very familiar with this.

estate4life- Mine are the same. they are the direct bolt on with an led light on the head of the bolt. glad you like them hope I do too

You know, there's a tutorial floating around here somewhere on just that - wiring the oem tail light to be like the Clear Alternatives signal/brake light. See if you can find that. As I remember, it has pics as well.

I bought a license plate light with a bracket but it was crap for the money. Plus I didn't like the swing-arm license plate holder, it's illegal and ghetto.

So I just drilled a few holes in the undertail after lining everything up. I used the plate light bracket just to mount the license plate. Lock nuts and/or double nuts are a good idea. Then I wired the LED through the undertail. I like how it turned out... Pretty clean.

You could do the same and save more money than me, just buy a regular wired LED and some L-brackets from the hardware store. You'll also need long screws and nuts for the bracket. The LED is hot glued and also helps you find the keyhole in the dark.

Gotcbr- I found the thread but the pics have been removed. I guess because it is so old? idk.

Hurricane_rider- that looks good, I did the same thing when I made my undertail. Name: tn-2.jpg

Hmmm, that's a shame. I just saw one of those threads a few days ago & it still had pics.
