o wow...I can't believe I found this. I just bought my bike used and I was sitting there with this seat cover thinking to myself there is no way its supposed to fit like this. I don't have those brackets......Time to call the previous owner

I just called them, its like 25 bucks plus shipping for the hardware

For how expensive the Targa is, it sure looks like it installs like crap. Why can't they just recreate the bottom of the passenger seat, so you could still use your helmet locks and whatnot?

Because the funky brackets on the OEM seat that hold on under the subframe rail would require more material to manufacture.

One hint on this installation (seeing as I installed one yesterday on my '02) on the forward mounting brackets that thread through the helmet locks, install the bolt backwards from what it says in the instructions. i.e. head bolt forward on the bike, star nut and nut screw on from the back. This is much easier than trying to do it the way they call for. I only dropped the star washer once and lost it in the bike before realizing this adjustment to the procedure was warranted.

Well if they did, it might actually warrant the $140 price tag. From what I've seen so far, I would rather pick up a used passenger seat and fab my own cowl.
