fix it up. nothing major is screwed up on it from what it seems like. just seems like little odds and ends that over the course of time could be finished with little effort. you have another bike, so theres no rush to get it back on the road. time, patience, and price shopping will all pay off in the end!!! than id turn it into either a track bike, or a stunt bike. either way you cant lose

So I take it the bike wasen't insurence when stolen? Live and learn eh. I would fix the bike and then sell it. It's been abused by someone else, not worth the chance to hold on to it IMO.

First off Welcome! That is amazing that they recovered your bike after so long and with it being mostly intact. Plenty of good info here to help you get it back on the road. Here is a good post on how to get the rust out of that tank HOW TO: Clean a rusty tank like a toilet bowl - DCSportbikes.net this is also a good local board to check out. I live pretty close by, I'm not the most mechanically inclined, but willing to help out where I can and definitely up for doing some riding. Good luck getting this thing back together .

not such a good idea with wires running to the ecu. they should be sauldered and shrink wrapped to avoid excess resistance of a connector which could possibly cause false readings from sensors. but i agree with fixing the bike. mine had more wrong with it than that when i bought it and i was super happy to get it for a grand.

The 3M connectors will give no more resistance than the solder. They are designed that way.

I'd say definitely fix it if you have the time and money. Although I'm curious to know if there was an insurance payout on it when it was stolen, because wouldn't that mean technically the insurance company owns it? I know when my 500 got totaled out they wanted my pink slip signed and sent in.

Thanks for the responses all, and please keep the "HOW TO" posts coming. To answer the major question:
I only had liability insurance, so no payout was given. I bought the bike for $3000 in 2009, so only opted for the liability. Yes, I've learned my lesson and the new bike has full coverage and a GPS tracker.

@DammitMike, definitely feel free to come my way and help out. I can message my email

congrats man. Id put it back together. Any damaged wires make sure you solder ALL of your connections. using butt connectors or wire taps are asking for trouble later!
