Default sputtering?

whats up everyone. lately i have been noticing that when holding the bike at a constant speed in 5th or lower gears i can watch the rpms bounce a little. for example, i will hold it at 5k rpms to stay at a constant speed like 55 and while it sits at 55mph the rpms jump up and down about 1k rpms. like if it was at 5k rpms and 55mph it starts to bounce between 4k and 5k. you can also hear my exhaust with the bounce, like the bike is sputtering kind of. i am changing the oil this weekend, thinking maybe its just bad oil, but any input would be appreciated.

its in any gear from 5th to 1st. bike has about 24,000 miles on it. if its the gas, then the gas has been bad for about the last 8 times i have filled up. i fill up about 2 times a week.

when's the last time you got your plugs changed? they say around 12-14K but i've yet to see them go that long.

that was going to be my next project. they have not been changed since i have owned the bike (21,000 miles) and i dont know when the previous owner changed them. i have cleaned the plugs before and they seem to look like the stock plugs that come with the bike. when i went to the dealer to get new ones, they told me that each plug was $30. i dont have the cash to spend for the dealer plugs. is there an alternate aftermarket plug that will work? thanks tahoe. i was thinking the plugs too, but was hoping it wasnt going to kill my pocket book.
