If i want to change my sprockets.

For best end preformance would it be best to -1 on front and +1 on back? or JUST -1 on front...?

Thanks

depends on what you want to do...-1/+1 will be good, most just go -1 or -1/+2. you can use stock chain length with both...but depending on how old the chain is, you may want to replace both...so one doesn't make the other wear out more...actually, you should replace both. i didn't but i only had like 1K on the new sprockets at the time. make sure you get a great chain...meaning...DID.

I just went -1 up front. Feels like a new bike, pulls harder now. And my wheelies come up so much easier in second. Before they were like at 60 mph. Now im on the highway throwing it up around 40mph.

yea i dont feel like changing both sprocket sizes, i just want -1 tooth down in the front. How much does this take away from top speed and is it still relatively close to stock. If i change this to -1 tooth down in front then does that mean its a 520 chain i would need? thanks

YOU CAN STAY WITH THE STOCK CHAIN WITH A -1 FRONT. I'M HAVING MINE PUT ON NEXT WEEK WITH A PC3USB AND K&N FILTER. I'M HOPING LIKE HE SAID, THAT IT'LL FEEL LIKE A NEW BIKE, SUPPOSEDLY YOU ONLY LOSE 8-10MPH AT TOP END, AND WHO'S GONNA USE THAT OFTEN IF EVER.

-1 isnt really that big of a change in gearing, its only a 6.25% reduction. The stock bike wont hit the rev limiter in 6th gear anyway so it actually doesnt hurt your top speed at all. You also don't need a speedo healer if you recalibrate your mind to add 6.5% to the indicated speed on your speedometer. So go an indicated 27 if the speed limit is 25. Go an indicated 37 if the speed limit is 35. 48 for 45. 59 for 55. 69 for 65. And so on.

All right fellas, I personally have ridden 2 F4is both same year. My buddy had a -1 in front, stock rear and I had a -1 in front and +2 in rear. My bike came up so much easier then my buddies. You could noticably tell the difference in power also. As far as top end, When I had stock sprockets, I topped out at 176mph on the speedo. With -1,+2 i topped out at 173mph. But if you are changing the sprockets then do the -1,+2. its well worth it.

P.S. The chain on a stock F4i is a 525 chain. MAKE SURE you get a 525 sprocket if you arent planning on getting the 520 conversion kit. otherwise your sprocket will be thinner then the chain requires. AKA little dangerous, Hell I dont even know if it will fit either.

Also, dont let the guys at the bike shop try selling you a whole 520 kit if you just want sprockets. 520 kit just means that you are going to have an easier time snapping that chain.

ok, so lets say i went -1/+2...clearly yes it causes you to do easier wheelies...and faster acceleration.
My f4i, that has stock sprockets, can get up in first gear by just hitting the throttle hard. (it wont get up in second stock by just hitting the throttle)
now, with the -1/+2, would this allow you to bring it up in SECOND gear, by just letting off and hitting the throttle hard?

yes it does, and standups are long as hell if you get it up on the highway.

This has nothing to do with the sprockets but I was excited about it. Anyways, I am going to be getting a full Akropovic Exhaust system from Honda, I told them everything I had as performance parts on the bike and they want to install and remapp my bike for free. They asked if I wanted to get into the racing business and Im kinda thinkin about it right now.

Anyways,
That was just exciting for me so.
