I was checking out the numbers on sportrider.com, it looks like the RR has about 7 more horsepower and 2lb's more torque for '06, but in the 60-80 and 80-100 test, the RR did each 2 seconds faster. That can't be right? It can't possibly take me over 5 seconds to go from 60-80 as their numbers indicate, and no way the RR is almost twice as fast accelerating at those speeds. Did they post it wrong? Sorry if this has already been asked, didn't see anything on the search.

there's a lot more to it than hp and tq differences i would imagine. are the transmission ratios and sprocket sizes the same on the RR vs f4i? the RR may also be more aerodynamic. anyway i agree with vangill, just get out and ride.

 

Get a buddy with a RR and do the 60-80 test yourself.

 

Not sure about the '06 but when the RR's first arrived on the scene the F4i's had quicker strait line times and the RR's owned the track times. I am sure as RR's become more of the focus the margin flopped and the RR grew some.
Either way as mentioned above have fun and get out and ride

 

I guess I'm wondering for two reasons, first it seems like with similar HP and torque numbers, such a difference in acceleration would either be from different mapping (ie. get a powercommander and greatly improve performance) or gearing. Second, while I understand it doesn't matter for someone only riding on the street, I've been doing more and more track days lately and am wondering whether I should put some money into making the bike a little better on the track (ie. suspension and brake upgrades) or cut my losses and get a bike more suited to the track. If the RR truly is double the acceleration from 60-80 and 80-100, it would be fairly hard to ever ride competitively on an F4i on the track unless there is a fix that brings those closer together. I hope that makes sense .

from what ive heard on the track its more about the rider

the only major thing i could think of is that the 06 rr has inverted forks, radial brakes, and the prolink rear suspension. yes its more aimed for the track, by a lot.
but if youre only worried about 60-80 and 80-100 times, i would imagine that in real life with you on each bike your times will be pretty much the same.
