Some advice on buying an F4i?
Hi guys, I'm seriously considering picking up an F4i. I've owned many bikes over the years (two Ducati Monsters, R6, Harley etc..) and have been dealing with just having a car for the last year for my work commutes etc. I think it's time to get back in the saddle.
What I'd like is something that's not so recent or 'snazzy' that it attracts too much unwanted attention (especially when parked). Something that has a bit of performance but is fairly comfortable and something reliable and cheap to maintain. I figure an F4i fits the bill pretty well.
I've found an 01 with 14k miles that seems to be in great shape. Not too many mods (seems like he's just done the exhaust, which is an m4 high mount, turn signals, tinted windshield). It still has the warning stickers on the swing arm, still has the original reflectors and looks to still have the original brake and clutch lever. To me these are signs that someone has responsibly owned it. Up to date reg and clean title are also obviously good signs.
My real question is how much would be reasonable to pay for such a bike? I was thinking not too far above $3000? It is a 12 year old bike any way you slice it. Does that sound fair? Too much? Too low.
Also, any advice for anything specific I should look at or for on these bikes when I go look at them? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks, 74demon. That's what I was thinking. Especially at this time of year, too. Well, it sold while I was at work yesterday so the search continues, I know I want an F4i. Just a matter of time until I find the right one I guess!

Yeah, I'm looking in OC and LA as well but I'd rather not go to LA for it. It's hard to find bikes this old that haven't been overly molested/ abused. I'd hate to drive a long way to figure out something is not what it seems to be, lord knows I've done that a few times!

That is a lot of work! All up and running smooth now I hope!

Don't forget about the inland places. Temecula, riverside, corona, and those places have a different economy than San Diego and OC. All within an hour up the 15 from you.
