you can line the edges with weather stripping
Or grommets.

I like a little room around the sliders, they may deflect a little on impact, so maybe if they are too close they will hose up the fairing.

the sliders will go in the side that they fit into. the little nub fits inside the engine mount. its kind of fool proof cause if you put the frame slider in the wrong side it wont fit right. i did that when i was putting mine on. as for the screw, if it sticks out too far, you know you got the wrong one, so switch it out with the other.

These aren't vortex sliders. Vortex have a 2 part design and the pucks are universal.

IIRC, the ones with the long bolts should go on the left side. Recommend you do a search for the threads on Vortex slider installation and that will confirm which side gets the long bolt.

+1. these are not vortex.

2" hole saw was used on mine.

the right slider will stick out farther than the left slider.

And there is a difference in which one goes where. Good luck.

ORIGINAL: patman

when you drop a bike on sliders what part of the bike gets scratched? it seems like it would still **** the bottom of the fairing or handlebars, gas tank or something up, if thats the case they don't seem worth it.
Sliders are well worth the money. They may not always save everything but they will definitely save something. I'd say better to have themthan not.

I once came away with only bar end damage...otherwise unscathed.

Frame sliders are worth the money, even if your bike just tips over. I dropped my bike in the bank parking lot coming to a stop, like a tool, and the bike had no damage except some very slight scuffing on the slider. Had they not been there, the upper part of the fairing would've had some nice scratches in it.

Thanks Maldy that made it easy ,just got them on now. The 1 3/4 cut seemed like it would be tight but they fit in like a glove

this is what it looks like after being "used"...

however as I have said in another thread recently - it's a FRAME slider, not a FAIRING slider - it's designed to protect the integrity of the critical components (Frame, engine). Cosmetic damage is going to happen if you drop your bike, esp. while moving. Every wreck is different - the above pictures are from a high side while traveling approximately 20mph.
