Default shifting problems

i have an 02 f4i and i have this problem with it and im going to try and explain this the best i can. when i shift from say 2nd to third, while the bike is in second, i have to give just a little love tap to go down, not to neutral, but enough to get it unstuck from 2nd and then it shifts fine to third and it does this though all my gears, even when i down shift, i have to give my gear a little tap up so it doesnt stick. i would like to fix this on my own without going to the shop because i dont want to spend $90 an hour to have them look at it.it is still rideable but riding isnt even fun having to worry about this. any help please tell me or if you have no idea what i am talking about sorry, i tried to explain as much asi can.

When is the last time you changed the oil?? What type are you using?? Im not an expert by any means but it sounds like the gears are just sticking alittle, you may need to change the oil. Try it before you start paying all the money to honda. It could be something this simple.

What flavor Royal Purple you using? Their MC oil or something like 15W40 diesel oil?

If this started after the oil change I would blame oil. I was using the Mobil 1 mx4t synthetic. This year I am trying a little different style of Mobil 1 synthetic for sport bikes, but don't remember off hand which one. I do know it's 10w40 though. So far it works great, or just as good as the mx4t did.

how long have you owned this bike? has it always done it? oil could be the problem, or if your unfamiliar with it, it could be you.

have you checked your clutch lever adjustment?

you are letting up a little on the throttle before you try and shift or pull in the clutch right?
