Default Shifting problems

Does this happen to anyone else.

I will be driving and sometimes I cannot get the bike to down shift for the life of me. The previous owner said if I am going to fast that will cause it, but it is happening when I am stopped at a light and trying to go back to first. It will shift into neutral and poof that is as far as it wants to go so I have to do a second gear take off and next light it shifts into first just fine. Also same thing sometimes when I am going from first to second it goes into neutral. I have been riding a long *** time and never had this problem on any of my others bikes. Any ideas?

well sounds like something your doing ...... if your at a light not moving it won't shift.... try letting out the clutch JUST A BIT, not even to the friction point .. just away from the grip .. then try shifting the bike..... both my hondas do this .... just gotta get down to first or N before you get to a stop......
