Default School me on steering dampers

I've been riding harder and harder lately and tank slap is NOT COOL!

What do you have?

Where did you get it?

How did you install it?

And most importantly, how do you like it?

I'm no track star, just want some more stability.

It's an 01 with 9k miles. Feels just like it did when I bought it last year with 4k miles. I'm just becoming more confident and riding harder. Happens when I bang second and lift the front a bit.

I've found that setting up your suspension helps a lot. At one point I had all my preloads and dampers set to half and I would have problems exiting turns and the front getting a little wiggly (anybody else?) But I made things a little stiffer and for the most part that went away.

I will still be purchasing a steering damper as soon as I get some money. After all, I totaled my bike last year due to tank slap. I would also like to hear some recommendations on dampers.

This happens when you're going in a straight line? My god man, please learn how to ride properly first...

The most common reason I've seen for someone getting the wobbles is because they have too much of their weight on their wrists, which causes one of them to push the bar forward.

But a damper isn't going to magically fix your riding habits. Get your suspension professionally dialed, maintain tire pressure, and do a couple track days to learn how to push your bike in the proper environment.

So what is another common reason? I don't ride with any weight on my wrists. No my suspension isn't professionally dialed, but I'm a 160lb; which is pretty ideal for stock settings. My tire pressure is always at the recommended 36/42.

well trust me get it setup for your weight. but tank slap does happen under accel if the front comes up just a little its from pulling back on one side and not holding on with your legs and flexing your stomach. just needs to get use to riding harder.

stock settings are meant for a 160 lb rider???

I live in Central Maine and I don't trust the mechanics around here. Anyone know of a good place to get this done within like 6 hours of me, say around Boston/NH
