Salvage 2005 F4i
Hey guys, i was just wondering if fixing a salvage title bike is worth it. I found a 2005 CBR F4i 600 with easy cosmetic damage all around from a dealer. Is it worth while to fix it up. From what i can see it needs new mirrors, turn signals, and tank. Any of you had bikes with salvage titles, is it worth it in the end? Any input would be nice. I am shopping for a CBR around 4k, i am trying to buy now when the market isnt hot. Thanks Jhamblett
Beware... There may be subtle yet severe flaws such as a bent frame which will give you hell later on down the road. My bike has a "rebuilt" title but I had a gentleman I know, who's been into bikes a LOOOOONG time check it out for me in his shop and it turned out to be ok. Usally if a deal's too good to be true, then it is. Just be careful and use your common sense dude... IMHO, I'd go ahead and buy a bike that you KNOW won't have troubles. Better to pay a little more now than alot later, and if money isn't the only issue, consider your own saftey. Bikes aren't that forgiving. Good luck. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
Ask them if you can take it to have it checked out before you buy it. If they completly flip you know there is something they are hiding. And if they wont do that get something in writing and signed and notarized that says they do not sell bent frame bikes. So if it is jacked up you can force them to buy it back or buy you a new frame and do all work for free.
mine was not written off, but had been crasheed repeatedly, ttok it to a bloke and got the frame alignment check, as long as its straight go your hardest, if it isnt though, you are gonna be up for some cash.... let us know how it goes...

I'd stay clear of salvaged bikes. After my accident, I had the bike towed home before taking it to the shop and inspected it myself, looking over everything as best as I could. I came to the conclusion if it was totaled, I didn't want anything to do with that bike again. Afterwards I had the option to buy it back for like $2500 from insurance. Sure, I could've built it back to how it looked before, and probably saved a few bucks too, but I said no thanks. If they're slid they're ok. Once they fly and land every which way they'll never be the same again, no matter how they look.
All the aspects of getting the bike back together aside, you will have a harder time trying to sell a salavge titled bike down the road. A new set of fairings and gas tank are probably gonna run you around $2000. I doubt you would be able to pass much of that off on the person you sell you bike to in a couple of years.
