Default Removing Upper Fairing

Hey guys,

I'm gettin ready to pull my upper fairing off to do some plastic repair, but was just wondering how time consuming this is gonna be, it's already mid afternoon, and if this is gonna be a couple days of work I'm going to hold off until next weekend.

Anyone have any advice on pulling these fairings off and do I need to pull the side fairings off as well?

thanks!

Depends on your skill...but if you're unsure, hold off until next weekend. From the diagrams in the repair manual, side fairing removal doesn't seem necessary...but removing the side fairings is pretty darn easy...it's yanking the fairing out the boss grommet that may get you nervous.

Anyway, here's the upper fairing removal portion from the repair manual in case you don't have it. Right click and "Save Target As"...

thanks stephy, I think i got the whole manual from your site and checked it out already. I think I'm just going to hold off untill next weekend

and I'm not too nervous about popping that boss gromnet out, I was pretty rough with my tail portion and those babys always snap!

it'll take like 20 mins or so.
you have to remove the v fairing and sides as they are connected to the upper.
also, the air duct covers, and then the mirrors.
taking off is easy, lining it back up to reinstall is much harder.

the air duct cover has one bolt located closest to the headlight which must be removed...also three front bolts on the fairing is attached to the upper fairing...which must also be removed to remove the upper...you don't have to remove the side or air ducts per se, but you do need to remove all these bolts.
