Default Recommended Manufacturers for like OEM or better.

Hi all,

I’m doing some pre-summer maintenance jobs on my 02 CBR600 F.

Im looking to do some upgrades that I think will improve the bike while keeping its factory look.

specifically, I am looking to upgrade the original brake lines with braided ones, and upgrade the leavers for both the clutch and front break.

I’ve seen a couple of makes of braided hoses. (HEL and Venhill) I’m looking at keeping the single hose from the front master cylinder to the right calliper over the mud guard to the left calliper setup.

Has anyone heard of these makes, and if so are they up to standard. Brakes are pretty important, so I want to make the most informed purchase I can.

As for the leavers, the factory ones are quite scruffy either due to the previous owner leaning it on stuff, or due to the age of the bike, I have seen some adjustable levers for the clutch, are these worth the upgrade?

Any recommendations or pointers would be very much appreciated, thanks!

You can't go wrong with HEL brake lines, generally the go to for lines (in the UK), I do not have any experience with Venhill. Most folk would go for direct lines to each caliper to get the most efficient braking, The original config can sometimes be very difficult to bleed.
If you have hands with a small span, adjustable levers can be a big help, I do and have them.

Cheers for the response!

I was moving towards HEL, I’ve checked their site, looks like they also offer the banjo bolts in black as well as stainless, and some other nice heat shielding around the expansion couplings.

Think I’ll go with them. Good to know about the dual direct line setup, they called it “RACE” so I was under the impression it was for a track setup, if that’s not the case, I’d probably be better going that route. Not much difference in price by the looks of it.

If I was to go with adjustable leavers, what would you recommend brand wise? Looking for something low profile, I think black or stainless would looks quite nice. Not a fan of flashy stuff 😄

Also looking at a scorpion (stubby) exhaust in full stainless, as although the factory one sounds pretty good, it’s a little big. But will get the essentials out of the way first I think

Hel's would be good, if you want to keep it oem, go original, race is really just a direct connection from MC to caliper, not via link pipe, so should in theory be more efficient.
That said Mr Honda clearly did his homework on these bikes so us mere mortals would probably never tell the difference!
Most lever suppliers have numerous colours to chose from so you should be able to get some that suit and the price range is staggering £25-150. Pays your money... etc.

Something like these look ok:

They will all be aluminium CNC machined so not sure what makes one better over the other.

Scoprpion Exhausts are good I previously has a carbon can was fairly loud, currently running a yoshi which is very loud.

Magic

That is a great help, those leavers are pretty much what I was after, looks like they come in black with red toggle. Will make a decision this evening.

Yeah, I will maybe give HEL a call to get the 411 on what’s the best setup for myself, that will help narrow it down, as you say, we’d be hard pressed to tell the difference, and I think even having the braided over the standard will pay dividends.

I love Yoshi cans, my old man had one on his 00 YZF-R1, it was very loud haha! Unfortunately a bit out of my price range for now

I had a scorpion on my last bike, thought it sounded great, so will stick with them for now I think

Cheers again for your help, looking forward to getting it all installed in time for summer! I am I am fancying Armoy RR this year, buzzing for it
