Default Re-mapping?

I have a 02 F4i and it has a shortened D&D exhaust and I plan on getting a K&N Air filter around Christmas time. Should I get it re-mapped and what would i notice if I did not?
Thanks!

proly wont notice much unless u get a custom, just depends on ur budget, if u care a lot about it, then yes
but if its not that important to you-dont worry about it, the bike will be fine

Some people use a Power Commander, and they get it tuned. I don't plan on getting a K&N air filter because A) They're expensive and B) Stock works fine.

Is it necessary, no, but you're bike will run "optimally" with optimally being a loose term.

I have used K&N's previously on other bikes and I personally dont like them,

Lot of money for next to no gain,

If it came with a K&N keep it. Other wise stock filter works fine. I like cleaning my filter so that's always a plus too.

Otherwise everyone else pretty much nailed it. You wont see much gain's from a power commander unless you get it tuned.

What do you guys mean by "tuned" ? I thought that all you needed to do was download the map at power commander and you were good to go. Since the map on there is for a 2001 F4i does that mean its won't work for Samras121 02 and my 06?

Exclamation

The "Standard" maps that dynojet produce are based on their test bike and not yours. Each bike is differnent, has differnent manufacturing tollerances and differing useage and miles.

It is also worth noting that DJ air on the side of caution with their Standard maps as if they go too lean or too close to the limits then some peoples rides may be damaged. The other thing is that if they produce these standard maps to a good performer then they and the Dyno operators will loose out with the money made from producing custom maps.

The custom produced map is exactly that, produced for a 1 off application as it is. If you change anything, air ducts, exhaust, cams etc then a new map would be required.

I have a custom map on my VROD and the diffence between Standard and Custom was a +10% gain, not bad for £150. The standard was way too rich 3/4 the way through the range and too lean near 1/4 throttle !

I will post before and afters if I can find the graphs,

I learned a lot from my Vrod after paying **** loads on Reinharts, K&N , short velocity stacks, and Powercommander with custom map.
