the pin that held the runner on the end of my cct wasn't perfectly round when i swapped mine to an ape

i believe that pin is what causes the rattling issue

did you scope it out while it was off the bike?

Since you can take it off and put it back on just try uncle jeffs mod,

take it out and take a sharp punch and put a dimple right at the tip

on the flat side. It will make the tip more snug, I moded my new one

and have over 2k miles with no rattle.

if it went out i'm sure i'd be hearing that spring making some kind of god awful noise, probably very different from the can of bbs noise an f4i makes
Gear drive cams ftw. My CBR250RR is gear driven and sounds great, and doesn't have a tensioner. It is perfect.

And to the last poster, Yes. That pin gets loose and allows the head of the CCTL to vibrate on the shaft causing rattle noises. Every bad CCTL i've heard sounds the same. Even my buddies 98 SRAD GSXR600 with a bad CCTL sounded basically the same.

i have a cbr600f 2003 model i have a ticking noise at 2500 rpm / 3000 rpm , but nothing on tick over or revving at a stand still, i changed my automatic cam chain tenioner for a new one original honda but the noise is still there , it sounds like it's definitely top endish , any ideas.
