RE: rain advise
Make sure you're chain is covered with lube or wax. The day I bought my bike I rode it home in the rain and the next day i had some light surface rust. Also i commute with it almost every day, and I keep a spare of old clothes at work if it's raining when I leave work, as good pants will get trashed from the fender wash.

I'm a rain riding pro. If you can get a chain cover (as seen on rear wheel huggers) it will keep the back of your right pant leg a lot cleaner. Everything is watter except what your chain is spitting out and that can get annoying.
Take curves and braking slower, duh.
Counter balance a lot of your turns. This helps pretty much only in slow turns. Basically if you lean the bike to the right try to keep your body positioned upright rather than leaning with the bike.
Never turn off your high beams ever (rain shine day night whatever, leave them on).
Wear a textile jacket, leather sucks.
Do burnouts for your friends.
