Default Some advise please

First off, hello all!! i am new here and look forward to learning alot from you guys!!
Well i just bought my first bike i pick it up wednesday. the bike i bought is a 2003 cbr600rr jet black. i have a few questions for you experienced guys:
1. the bike has 5,000 miles on it do you guys consider this to be alot or no?
2. the guy i bought it from said he changed the oil twice and it was in need of one soon.
is this normal? seems like it shoulda had 3 or 4 by now. what do you think?
(he claims to be a honda test engineer but im not so sure)
3.i paid $5,000.00 ($1,000.00 below K.B.B) with a $250 helmet and brand new dunlop sportmax tire,
and the bike is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!! NEVER BEEN DOWN AND NOT A SINGLE SCUFF/SCRATCH!! i think i got a good deal, what do you all think?
4. has any of you bought an out of state bike before? or one with lein on it through bank? how fast/difficult was the transfer?

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT!!

Welcome and congrats on the new bike. You made a good choice. Well I don't consider myself an experienced guy by any means, but hopefully this may help.

1. 5000 miles in 3 years, I'd say that's not bad at all. You figure 1800 or miles a year.

2. You'll get different opinions on how often guys change their oil and what not. You should probably change it now and then start keeping track of your maintenance schedule. This way you'll know what's in your engine and can go from there. If he's only done 2 changes it doesn't really matter now, can't do anything about it.

3. I'd say you got a pretty good deal considering the miles and if it really is as clean as you claim.

4. Can't help you on this one, I'm from Canada. Paid cash for my bike.

Have fun and keep the shiny side up.

well i bought mine new. 0 miles. got 6500 now. one thing about the all black and laid down part.. if it was liad down it cn be fixed to made look like new. my friend had his bike droped three time in like two weeks, one at 35 miles and hour, one from his dad pushed to hard trying to sand the stator cover and once from his mom hittin it a like 5 mph in the garage. he got it painted and bought a new few things. looks perfect. but sounds like a good buy. so if its never been droped..try to keep it that way

Seems like you did pretty good on price and all.
5000 miles in 3+ years, the guy never rode it.
Changing the oil 2 times in 3+ years, you'd better check everything else and torque specs of all major bolts, because I'm sure he only made it look pretty.
Doubt he's a test engineer...He'd know to change the oil a lot more...and actually ride a lot more that 5k miles.

Here's a list of what I'd do:
*Drain that rat **** oil he's go in there, no telling how long it's been in there, or what it is. Run Honda GN4 w/ new Honda filter and drain plug crush washer for about 250 miles. Change @ 250 miles and use HP4 Synthetic Honda oil w/ new filter and crush washer.
*Install 2 brand new tires, even if the other looks new, it may be old. When the tires get old, they tend to get dry and lose grip.
*Lube the chain w/ chain wax or similar. I'm positive he probably never lubed it but maybe once or twice. Then lube every 300 miles or so.
*Inspect brake fluid, make sure it hasn't turned yellow.
*drain and flush all coolant...it's 3 year old factory stuff.
*The brakes should be fine, but inspect rotors for any pitting
*Check torque with proper specs on everything; clip ons, wheel axles, steering head, frame, pinch bolts...everything.
*Check the inside of the tank with a flash light too for any signs of rust or corrosion.

It'll be worth your while to look everything over. When people don't have many miles on a bike in that period of time, chances are they just rode it once in a while and didn't bother with servicing and maintenance. Seems like a good bike and a good price though.
