Default Question About Pulling Levers Off.

I was thinking of pulling the levers off to clean and lubricate the pivots as well as the cables. No problems, just slowly working through the bike doing maintenance and learning. Are there any special concerns about the switches or other components when removing the levers? Any special sequence other then removing the pivot screws and going from there? Tks.

Nothing special about them. If your taking them all the way off, you may need to disconnect the clutch cable at the trans if it wont back off far enough at the lever.

Apparently there is something that I don't know about lever removal or I'm being to gentle on the pivot. Removed the cap nut from the clutch lever pivot screw and started to unscrew the pivot. Very hard to turn and once it reached about 4 to 5 full turns it appeared to freeze up. Could not back it out any further and with great difficulty I managed to screw it back in. Has the lever and pivot simply seized (probably never disassembled) and needs a squirt of penetrant or is something else going on? tks

Try lube. It should just unscrew

Shouldn't need to disconnect the clutch cable from the trans, loosen it up and your good. Just did mine. You can pull on the cable to engage the clutch to give you a little wiggle room. Just adjust as needed with new levers.

Just got a chance to look at an exploded parts diagram, the pivot bolt should come out once the retainer nut has been removed. I'm guessing that something may have scored the bearing surfaces and that's limiting the movement. I'll be a little more "persuasive" when I get home tonight. Thanks

Sounds like the end of the screw might have stripped threads if it screws out fine at first but then seizes. If you can get it out use a tap/die on the nut and screw to salvage otherwise get a new one. Could be something else but that screw should come right out pretty easily. Definitely check the sleeve for scoring though and if so replace the lever.
