ORIGINAL: Flip
How to avoid? Buy used in the future.
Off topic, but i honestly dont know why anyone would buy a new bike, you lose 2k driving off the lot and there are tons of awesome used bikes out there that you can ride for a few years and then sell for essentially the same price...

Yeah, sorry to hear that. Nothing wrong with buying new for your first anyway...you know exactly what has been done to it and how you took care of it. A lot of used bikes are totaly beat on all the time, especially sportbikes.
I'd suggest replacing the busted/bent parts and leave the plastic alone for now. Definately spend the $40+ on frame sliders. They won't prevent all, but certainly helps.

Upon further inspection, looks as though the radiator is now bent in a V shape under the left mounting point, and the mounting bolt has snapped off into the frame. Thats without even taking the fairing off.....
i am afraid of what else might be busted...

I feel your pain....I'm almost in the same boat except I bought my 2004 used last month but it looked new!!!
I killed my left side mirror, scratched the right side fairing, and cracked the right signal light housing, bent my break handle...
Here's what I've done/going to do...
- I'm going to keep my scratch fairing until I get really good and don't fall
- I took my handal bar off and slowly hammered it back to its original shape with a hammer and a cloth
- Mirror I bought a new one and replaced it cuz you need to see what behind you...this is important to me
- im going to keep my right signal light cuz only the housing is cracked but the light still works...when I really kill it I will replace it with a light that is low profile and dont stick out...
Good luck on your bike...

Never buy a new bike till you have been riding for atleast 2 years.
Beware, if you go to your insurence and the total the bike, your insurance will go up to the point that you could buy a new bike every 2 years for the price of full coverage insurance.
I wish there were still good 400cc sport bikes out there. Atleast overseas you can get a good 400cc sport bike used. Then you can learn to turn and not kick your rear out so easy on things like gravel or wet centerlines.
But I also feel that there should be graded liscenses too.
Be safe.
