seems like there's a lot of problems with the speedo not working as expected on the lower f4i years. Mainly 01, 02. That's my opinion. My speedo acts up too but i don't mind. If u happen to fix it, post up a DIY or a detailed thread... maybe they'll sticky it for all the others.

might be your speed sensor, after a few min. of not getting a signal it might default to zero (just a guess) I would make sure all my connections were plugged together well, if that dont fix it, look up in a manual (i have one if you dont, maybe i can walk you through it), to see how to check the speed sensor.

thanks for the input.
yes it goes up and down befor i start it.
the speed sensor is operational because it comes on but not untill the cooling fan starts. at first i thought it was a couinsadance(sp) but its every time i ride the bike. as soon as i here that cooling fan kick on the first time it jumps up to the speed im going, and dosnt stop working untill i shut the bike off and it cools down all the way. seams like maby some kinda cooling fan relay effecting the speedometer? ill have to check the wireing, maby the previous owner did some ghetto wireing or sumthin. its ben like this since i bought it.

All the temp related stuff is pretty much electrically isolated from the speedo. The speed sensorwiring is alsoisolated untilit connects to theinstrument panel itself. Hate to be dinking around in that!! The only common stuff might be grounds or the big connector to the ECT. Might try checking those and the big connector to the instrument panel.
Hope you dont find a lot of non-honda electrical tape.
