Default Problem please help.

So I was taking a thanksgiving ride, and smoke started to come out from somewhere around the rear of the headlights. not sure exactly where from, But now my speedo cluster and everything is not working any more. including my tailights turn lights. The only thing that is working is my headlights and the time on thespeedo cluster. What do you guys think it is? any clues?
And also what is the temp you guys are running on ? What rpm does your bike idle at ? My bike is an 06' .

hmmm, my speedo sensor went bad last month and cause my speed/mileage to no function......but my temp and clock would still work. had the sensor replaced and no more problems. but idk why there would be smoke and lights not working.

as for temps......once i get a steady speed on the highway of around 60mph, my temp stays between 165-180. my bike idles just above 1k.

When mine is just sitting it's running around 210-220 is that ok ?
I don't know why it was smoking either, I guess I got to check all the wiring and fuses .

Real smoke is always bad. Something burningmakes the smoke- check fuses, hopefully it is only a fuse. If not a fuse, a wire going to the cluster may have gotten frayed and burnt up, or the worse case is that the cluster may have shorted itself out and burnt up.

Working on electronics, we always told people that once you let the smoke out, it won't work anymore.

Perhaps you have a nest of small rodents in there- chewing through your wiring loom

smoke from the cluster is a sign of a shorted out wire and should be found quickly and replaced! a burnt out wire can cause the remaining wires to overheat and the whole harness to short out which results in the bike usually catching fire![:-]!![:-]!!

Normal idle speed should be at 1000 to1100rpm and no more if possible. while temp holds around 160.

That is fine. When you are running in regular weather, it should be around 175-180 in my experience. Not sure about the smoking, though.

210-220: perfectly normal temps. mine gets to 229 at its max.... highway speeds, 170-180

as for the wiring, i dunno... sounds like it could be a power surge of some kind. first thing i'd do was see how many volts are going to the battery. should be around 14. i'd also take it to the shop asap.

You've got a serious problem where a positive wire is making constant contact with a piece of metal, creating a spark and inevitibly causing something to burn (the cause of the smoke). You should try and source the problem IMMEDIATELY.
