possible cct issue?
hey guys i was just riding the bike around and noticed that i have a little rattle around 5k rpms. now i know about the cct issue with the f4i but im not sure if im having that issue as the noise only comes on in first or second gear and only when im at half throttle in any other gear or at full throttle in second (never been full in first for obvious reasons) there is no noise. is this the cct or just a rattle? and if it is cct should i just avoid that throttle in those gears, or should i look into the manual one?
probably is cct noise but I wouldnt worry about it. I have yet to have a auto tensioner fail and I have about 80k miles between the f4 and f4i. The manual gave me more problems than the auto(had one on the f4i for a short period). now my crf450 is another story, manual all the way there.
Personally I went with a OEM auto one. I would always be paranoid that I set it wrong if I went with a manual one. When I went to the dealer to buy one they said that they have made changes to them to fix the problem. The new one had 2 blue dots on it if i remember correctly. Cost was only $42 canadian and took me less than 2 hours to replace. My vote is stick with auto but many ppl here swear by the manual ones.
I have the APE manual one and here's a rule of thumb to go by. If you plan on doing the installation yourself, go with the "newest version" of the auto one. Look up the part no. and make sure that's the one you get.
If you don't exactly plan on doing the installation yourself, find a shop that has mechanics experienced in installing the manual CCT and get the manual one. I have the manual one and you can't understand how much more I luv my bike...my last CCT was a pain in the butt...not only was it making the noise, but oil was also leaking through the failed CCT. BTW, my last one was an auto. I now run APE manual
