If the head light tip sensor is not connected the fuel pump will not Prime.
If you don't smell fuel that could be it. If its turning over a lot and not firing up you will smell gas out of the exhaust.

I'd buy a good manual, Clymer for example. Then I'd make sure you even have a tip sensor up there between the headlights. They often get removed on stuntbikes.
Overall don't be to overwhelmed. It's just a bunch of parts bolted together, eventually you'll get it.

you never answered the question...do you hear the fuel pump prime or not?
you only said "it sounds like it's being primed".
if it doesn't prime, then you no you have a fuel issue due to a malfunctioning switch somewhere, either kickstand, bank angle sensor, or even in the ignition.
i think it's fuel cause you don't say you smell any gas.

Or it could be start/ run switch, which will also not allow it to prime. Stunters modify their bikes to hell.
BTW- Do NOT run the car's engine if you use a car's battery hooked to the bike.
