Octane
I guess I am just a fan of using what the bike was designed for.
You know HONDA probably knew what they were doing when they built it.
It would be different if you had a really high mileage bike that was pinging with low octane, or if you were running nitrous or turbo.

Some buddies said they noticed black smoke coming out the pipe w. 87. I noticed snappier low-mid response w. higher octane. I'm currently NOT using a custom map but would like to. The bike runs cooler w. lower octanes.
I get better milage with 87 than higher octane. Think it's related to the bike actually using all the fuel b/c 87 doesn't require as much compression. Why use higher octane- all it does is stop knocking and 87 doesn't make my bike knock. How about yours? My car specifially calls out for it (92+), the bike doesn't.

The highest we can get in Cali is 91 its only about 20 cents more that 87 so what the hell when your just getting 4 or 5 gallons.

Yikes, searching around the net on this topic just pulls up hoards of forums with people arguing about what is better.
Does the manual say 87 *or higher*?
I'm definately going to reduce the octane from 94 like I was putting in before, but there isn't any definitive answer on what is the best. The differences between 87 and say, 89 are probably insignificant
