You may want to do a search for this topic, but...the manual (for my 06) says 87 octane.

My guess is that is good enough for the bike, maybe even best. All octane is is a standard way to define a fuel's resistance to detonation, if your bike is in proper tune then the lower octanes should be fine. (note: Gasoline is not made of the 8 carbon chain alkane hydrocarbon from which this standard derives its nomenclature.)

If a motor is designed to run on 87, it may not be able to completely combust 94 octane at all rpm levels. The result of running higher octane fuels (maybe not 94, but sunoco 100 or 110 octane) could be carbon deposits which can lead to hot spots and decreased head volume which in turn will require a higher octane.

If honda wanted premium in this bike they would state it (my s2000 needs premium, the accord does not, the vette wants 97+) in the manual.

Good luck with your bike.

You don't need high octane fuel unless you have high compression pistons... I Run 89 like five0 mentioned...

Throwing money away and decreased performance since the motor was designed for 87 Octane.

The performance issue is almost too small to mesure, but the money factor is definitly mesurable.

Yea I was putting the high grade gas in my bike for like 2 fillups when I first bought my bike. I thought it was better for my bike and I wanted to take the best care of it. Then I joined this forum and read some stuff and found octane doesn't mean better care.

I've been premium gas (91 octane) from California since I bought the bike, and so far no problems and don't feel like experimenting with lower octanes. Why fix something that ain't broke?

The highest we can get in Cali is 91 its only about 20 cents more that 87 so what the hell when your just getting 4 or 5 gallons.
