Default Newbie in need of some advice

Ok, I took the msf course in Dec, and have been riding my dad's cruiser (kawi vulcan 1500) every weekend since then. I think he was crazy for letting me get on his ride, but I never complained. I have all my gear, and am graduating in 2 weeks. I am looking at an 01 f4i with 13,000 (5,500 asking price), and a 03 gsxr 600 with 6,000 miles (5,900 asking price). All I hear from my friends is go with the gsxr, less miles, more hp ( i know i would not be able to put it to use), not much more $$. One of my friends even said that the f4i wouldn't even be able to keep up with him on his 04 r6; I think he is full of it, but then again he knows more than I do. I am completely torn, and need some advice quick.
Thanks

I know that I wouldn't pay more than $4500 for an 01 F4i. Ride all the bikes that you are considering purchasing and pick which one you like better. Everyone says that the F4i is alot more comfortable than other sport bikes. All the 600cc sport bikes are pretty close to each other in performance.

Will a used dealer let you ride them?

$5500 for an '01 seems excessive to me. The F4i is going to be more comfortable the the Gsxr. True friends, are not going to expect you to keep up, yet. That just puts you in a dangerous (and deadly) situation. If they expect you to keep up, I'd tell them to eat a bag full of $hit. Safety first, get used to your bike (whichever you chose), and take it easy. You got a whole lifetime to ride! Good luck.

I think that all depends on the dealer. Hard to say...

Your right! He's full of it. You'll be able to keep up with him once you get some good hours in on your bike. All my friend have 1kRR's and I keep up fine. Ya they get me in the straights but I get right back in line in the twisties.... Besides they'll wait for me if needed...

Yeah doesnt expect me to keep up with him anytime soon, he was talking about the bike itself. My dad's bike scared me from time to time, and there is no way that I am about do something stupid with my new investment. No wheelies or anything along those lines. About the price there is now way I am going to pay 5500 for the f4i. I am going to try get them down to 4500-4700. The KBB value was 4800 i think. What about the 13k miles, from what I have read it isn't even a factor as long as it was taken care of.

ok, the f4i can hang with just about all the other 600cc bikes out there. and if anything, your talking a few bikes slower in a straight line, thats IF anything. most of the speed different will be because of the rider, not the bike. as far as which bike to choose, its whatever you like better. to me, the f4i is more comfortable. the gas tank on the gixxer is too big for me. both bikes are gonna be just as fast as eachother as they both feature the same technology. go with whatever you like better.
