Default new to the forum~!

hey, i just got my '01 CBR F4i about a month ago.

It is running great, and just yesterday, I decided to change to oil.

I have changed the oil with no problems, and I tried to take it for a little ride, but something was very unusual.

There was smoke coming from the bottom front area (near the oil filter), the fuel is running ridiculously rich, because there was crazy white smoke coming from the exhaust, and also, the temperature was rising up ridiculously!!!!!!

I put in almost 4 quarts of oil which I know is more than enough, and the temperature outside is freezing. What do you think will be the problem? I really hope someone can help me out here! Thanks!

well what happens when you change the oil on the F4i is that alot of oil gets on the headers. This is because the oil filter is located just above the headers. It is possible that you got alot of oil on the headers after changing the oil, or it is also possible that the oil filter is not on hard enough. Oil could be dripping onto the headers as you ride. I would recommend taking the fairings off and inspecting the area. If all looks good then try and clean off the headers as good as possible, i always do this when changing oil so that way there isnt as much smoke.

1) agree with brancart
2)too much oil can be a bad thing.
3) white smoke from the exhast and a temperture rise may be a separate issue. (coolant system)

I am sure you did get oil on the headers...you can't get around it. I always keep Castrol Super Clean in my house for everything...especially cleaning my headers after I do the oil change. The extra oil on the headers can cause them to run a little hotter than usual until burnoff but it should not affect the temp that much to notice. Clean everything, let the bike run at idle for about 3 to 4 minutes and check for slow creeping smoke around the bottom of the bike.
