There are a few different adjustments you can make to the rear. For Rebound and compression the stock setting is 1 1/2 turns from fully turned in. As far as the spanner nut at the bottom of the spring the standard position is #3. This one goes from 1-7

There are two raised notches viewable from either the left or right side of the bike the number that its set to will be directly above these notches. So for example in this picture the setting is on 5.
Hope this helps.

If your going to adjust the suspension then why wouldn't you actually set it instead of putting it to stock settings?

I was just giving stock settings as a base line for him to go off of. I figure if you know where to start you're better able to fine tone, either softer or harder.

In reality I guess it was more information then needed since the question was really just about the notches.

Thanks for posting up!

Can someone help clarify for me?

Clockwise on the compression makes the shock HARDER to compress.

Clockwise on the rebound makes the shock rebound SLOWER.

Higher number on the spanner (preload) makes the bike sag LESS with the same rider.

Do I have that right?

Thanks in advance!

going off your picture i had to adjust by lining the number to the adjustment screw, cause i cant find the dot stamped .on mines there's a lot of oxidation.but i noticed in the picture above that the tab is pointing up where on mines its in a different direction.so on a nice day im going to try to clean it up and see exactly where the dot is located.

If you can't see the dimple it's no big deal. If you look at the shock you should notice that there are two raised nubs one on each side, they are oval shaped. It's these raised nubs that the adjustment notches click over to. So even if you can't find the stamped dot it's no biggie.
