Mounting Location for HID Ballasts?
I have seen plenty of pics of F4i's with HIDs, but where is everyone mounting their ballasts? Any forums I read basically say good luck finding spots on the F4i. Can some of you who have HIDs please post some pics of where you were able to mount the ballasts?
Thanks
Thanks
You have bigger problems than that. To run HIDs you need to take apart the headlight housing and figure out how to mount the HID projectors and still have adjustability. It has been done, but it aint easy. After that, your ballast cables will determine where you can mount them. I would remove the resonators from the ram air ducts and see if they will fit in the space there.
I thought the bulbs were H7 or H1? That's what they appear to be from just looking at them from the front on... I assume most people intend not on actually putting HID projectors in, but just a plug and play rebased HID bulb into the Halogen reflectors... i.e. no projector. Or at least that is what is usually done for cars. Granted the light output can be awful for some halogen reflectors, but usually the newer clear lensed headlights are decent. The older fluted lensed lights are usually terrible for HID plug and play kits. I have done 2 retrofits with HID projectors for cars...
I don't know what the cutoff is going to be, but I can bet it will **** off other drivers since no matter what with the Halogen reflectors you are not going to get a sharp line.
If you are going to spend the money and do it...why not do it right? And goofball can buy a "HID KIT" and slap some bulbs in the stock sockets. Just make sure you factor in some money for tickets. Blind a police car and I am sure you will get to explain all about your new modification.
I do a lot of sport compact stuff, and it just fires me up when people mod just for the sake of modding and don't really care what the end product is. Kind of like having a car with $5K worth of "motor work" that runs worse than stock because the joker dosent care to tune it.

I totally agree, here are some pics of my HID retrofits:

And the current lights on my civic, which are an Imported HID Projector:

And my booty stash from one batch I imported

I'll have to do a search to see if anyone has done a retrofit on an F4i and taken pics...

Thanks, it looks pretty good. I swore to myself that I would never do another retrofit. But we will have to see if I even get a f4i.
H7 and D2S/D2R are almost compatible, you just need a washer adapter to make them fit, so I am curious as to if someone has a cutoff shot on the wall.
Here is a picture of the cutoff of my last set:

And here is the best example of why not to use a PNP kit:

Hmm... H4 is a dual filament bulb, H7 is a sigle filament. I know the plugs on the back looked suspiciously like an H4 plug, but usually they don't provide dual reflectors when there is a dual filament bulb, like h4, 9004 and 9007... Some website said 01-05 f4i were H7, but if you got a H4 to work, ain't nobody gonna say different...
