The honda GN4 is a petroleum base and is not too awful bad on price. I don't know if cheap is really were you want to go on this as it is also your transmission fluid. That my two cents.

I thought Honda lube would be really expensive too but I called the shop yesterday to get a price and they told me 4 bucks a quart for the Honda Pro 10w40.

The Honda synthetic is a little pricy for oil ($6-7 per quart x 4 qts) but according to Honda you only have to change it once every 8000 miles. You'll never get that kind of life out of petro-based oils. Personally I would never go 8000 mis. before a change, but I can verify that synthetics last a lot longer. My car uses Castrol Synthetics OEM and my regularly scheduled oil changes occur once every 15,000 mis, even on a brand new engine! So on the bike, with the oil and filter, you'll spend $40 (at most) once every 6000-8000 mis. I think its worth an extra couple $ per quart.

Honda GN4 4 stroke oil, 4/quart, or buy the 4 quart bottle for like 13 or 14 bucks. I just did mine today, cost me 14 for oil and 11 for a honda filter. Don't use regular car oil.

Did we warn you about the Caps Lock key yet? <joke>

I use Honda OEM fluids. Why not? They use the same fluids in their machines to benchmarket performance figures and specifications. Just use the correct weight and ves. and make sure it's a lube designed for motorcycles and more specifically one's for dry clutch systems. Watch out for "Engery Conserving" lubes. Best bet is to stay w/ Honda. Their GN4 lube is good, but I'm on the HP4 synthetic and the engine is much more happy w/ the synthetic lube!
