Default lcd speeodometer gauge not reading correctly.

I have a 01 F4i 600. On the gauge cluster one of my numbers are not reading correctly. for example. If it is reading 50 mph. The 5 would not read correctly..its distorted and doesnt look like a 5. i have noticed that at night or low lighted conditions it actually works likeit should and looks like the number it is supposed to be reading, but when its hot and sunny its not right. I can hardly ever tell exactly hows fast im going because of this. I was thinking it might be a diode or something on the circuit board but not really sure... could it just be the lcd is going bad and if so is there any way to fix it without gettinga whole new cluster gauge? i really dont want to buy a new one for the simple fact of the price and im not sure if the mileage would be the same. Can anyone shed some light on this or help me out?

My bottom line on the 10s digit is out. I've gotten used to it, but it is a bit annoying.

The only thing I can suggest is to contact Scott @ www.bluegauges.com - he poked around my gauge to see if he could fix the line, maybe he can poke around yours too. That or buy a new gauge.
