Default labor on shift fork install

my bike is at the shop getting some work done and i mentioned to them that the bike would pop out of gear while cruising. From what i have read on the forums, popping out of gear, could be cuased by bent shift forks and or worn dogs. Since i believe this to be a possible safety issue(had an accident while cruising in a straight line then waking up in an ambulance with no recolection of what happened) i want the problem resolved.

what is a fair estimate on labor? im not so worried about parts since the bike had 4k miles...hoping just forks and maybe one dog, but i am curious if anyone has had their transmission taken appart, if so what is a fair estiamte for labor. also, i am unfamiliar with hourly labor rates, what is the goinf retail rate(insocal)for an independant shop?

thanks

......4 hours......6 hours.......8 hours? more? whats the going rate at a independant shop in socal for hourly labor? $60? $80?

my funds are tight...or should i say my credit card limit is.. i dont want to get too far over my head...i already ordered a new exhaust to replace the scared one, $450 ouch, and i was planning on swapping out the 04 tail for a split seat. im not sure im going to be able to swing everything, the biggest unkown in the cost is going to be the transmission work. can anyone give an example of a best case and worst case scenario of fixing an f4i that has been popping out of gear? <--bikes an 04 with 4k miles. by best case i dont mean .5 labor to readjust clutch cable, more like the cost to swap in a new fork vs the cost to swap in multiple forks/dogs/gears.

thanks!

I have the same problem with my bike. I asked a local mechanic how much the labor would be and he told me it would probably be a 12 hour job at $60/hr. I'm in Texas so I don't know how much the price would differ.

Every shop is different and it will also depend on the job. In Nebraska, I never go to a Honda dealer or any dealer for any work. There are enough shops that do work and are not overpriced. Most of the work I can do myself. But the rate here is 60-80 an hour at the dealerships. And the non-dealer shops are at 35.

thanks! so maybe 10 hours at $80/hr. i figured it would be a time consuming job, but aslong as i can keep it under a grand i should be able to get everything completed on the bike.
