Question Jerky acceleration and crusing.

I was riding on the highway the other morning when the bike stopped accelerating / cruising. I was losing power and slowing down with the bike still running. Then all of the sudden it started accelerating again and then not. This happened back and forth about 5-6 times until the FI light came on. It stayed on for a few minutes until I came to a stop light and the bike fully died.

I noticed a few days earlier that the bike was riding rather "jerkily" (not smooth cruising at all).

I thought it was a chain issue but Im now thinking its a fuel injection issue or possibly spark plugs?

Anyone know what Im dealing with here?

I'd try some new plugs and maybe a fuel pressure regulator should run you about $130 give er take. Check your oil level too, make sure you don't have any gas in it and it is within the safe lines. Had a similar problem on my 02 and changed the plugs and FPR and runs like new now! Hope I helped

Try a little heet or isopropyl alcohol in your fuel first. You may have gotten some water in your fuel.

You said your FI light came on. Does it blink? If so refer to the manual to see what the cause might be.

It doesn't blink. Me and another member or two have this same problem. It's bad fuel more than likely. Make sure you buy your gas at regular places if possible (I only buy mine at gas stations with blue, red, and white colors, just seems to work out that way :P)

Check your battery connection, and also try cleaning the tank. Basically it's any combination of things that has to do it with goes in your tank.

Good luck and hope the problem doesn't persist!

follow up:

I took the bike in yesterday to get a new chain put on, and an oil and filter change.

I told the honda guy about the problem and he said it could be a number of different things. He proceeded to check my battery and noticed that the connectors were very loose and simply tightened them.

Thus far I have not experienced any issues since he properly connected my battery lol. I was hoping it wasnt gonna be expensive to fix and thank god it turned out to just be a loss in electrical power.

Thanks for all the reply's so far, this site is pretty cool.
