Default inverted forks, controls rub.

so my f4i camewith a 929/954 front end. the levers/handle bars always rubbed the upper fairing stay/gauge cluster and ram air tubes. anyone else's do this? did some searching and some posts say to mount the clip ons above the triple clamp.. mine are currently mounted under. is it as simple as unbolting then and sliding the forks up? any adverse effects doing so? thanks

Didnt look at any of the pictures but from memory I think stock F4i clip-ons are mounted above the triple clamp. I just put 954 forks on my F4i but its not on the road yet. Sliding the tubes up and down might work, whatever is easier and gives you the best handling.

Changing the clipon position above or below the triple clamp would certainly make a difference as to what parts they would be close to and the seating position would be a lot more comfortable. Is it both sides that rub? If the bike was wrecked something could be bent that causes the position of everything to be off.

Here are you pics. Is it possible you bought a former stuntbike? Looks like there is some damage but I also notice the stainless brake lines with the trick double banjo setup. Not to mention the stuntpopular 954 upgrade. Was the bike complete with these parts when you bought it? If the clip-ons were mounted below the triple clamp thats not a typical stunt setup but just guessing here, if this is a bike you recently purchased the problems you are having could be due to acrash or 2.

If you put the clip-ons under the triple you can remove the ram air tube covers and you'll get more clearance.

Since the f4i wasn't designed with clip-ons that low you're going to have clearance problems unless you start tweaking.

You will most likely have to slide the fork up in the tripple and mount the clip-ons on top. this will give you a more relaxed riding position as well. But, by lowering the bike, the handling characteristics will be off too. You could look to see if any company makes risers for the 954 set up. Maybe try helibars?

Yeah the previous owner bought the bike wrecked and installed the 954 front end. i did the 954 brake mc and stainless lines afterwards.
I dont stunt, bikes just a comuter and to havea little fun with in the twistys... eventully i'd like to learn some stunt tricks but mostly just a "point a to b" bike...
Dont want to do any lowering of the bike that would mess with the suspention geometry but who know's how jacked up it is with the 954 front...

what are risers? i came across this triple tree
http://www.hoheydesigns.com/honda/f4i.html
it looks like it would solve all my problems...

Clipons should go on top like the normal F4i would go. But with the 954 front end, u will change the rake of the front end. Which means its not gonna be exactly the same ride anymore. Depending on your riding experience, u may not even notice the difference. OR you can take the tubes off and just keep the clipons where u have them. That front end mod was made for stunting and some street fighting. I wouldnt recommend that setup for an everyday street bike. Unless you just take the tubes off and run the clipons the way u have them now. If your gonna ride street, IMO i'd sell thet front end and buy a stock F4i front end. Maybe even trade a stunter his F4i front end for your 954 front end and him pay some cash on the side.....To each his own, just depends on what your intentions are.....=-)

Fighter that biatch out and let it roll like this......Or keep it stock and just get a stock front end....=-)
