Default I'm hearing a pop from the exhaust....

I bought this bike last year in December with no problems and it already came with a yoshimura rs3 slip on. I started to notice recently when I switch gears I hear a popping nose. Does that mean its back firing? It only happens when I switch gears at 6 rpm and up. Is that normal? Is that really bad? What is wrong with it? What do I need to do?

Thank you in advance for the help. I really appreciate it.

might be time to replace your spark plugs, lift the tank and check all the Rubber Hoses.
on my bike i found a hose going to Intake Manifold Pressure sensor was bad.

What you are proabably hearing is the popping of unburned fuel coming out of the pipe. When engines are cold and it is cold outside, at higher rpm's the fuel goes through the engine so fast it doesn't all burn. When the fuel hits the oxygen, it pops. If you have a cold bike and its cold out, rap up the engine and watch flames come out of your pipe. Also known as backfiring. This is normal.

If you want to get technical backfiring doesnt happen anywhere near the exhaust. However, the issue is the bike is running rich. You have more fuel going through than you are burning. The easy way to fix this is get your mods done and get a pcIII and get it tuned. Until then your ecu is going to be doing the best it can to adapt to aftermarket parts which almost always results in your bike running rich in some part of the rpm range. If you are suffering from suddenly worse MPG then there may be another issue.

You could have a bad FPR.

I have this problem.

I also have an aftermarket exhaust which may be reason why I'm getting HORRIBLE gas mileage.

A pair mod will get rid of it if its bothering you. It won't hurt anything, just unburned fuel ignighting. The pair burns it, pollution control stuff. The mod will not get you any preformance, just stops the popping.
